Mission for the Rural People

SHELTERING THE WIDOWS AND THE AGED

According to the ancient practice of 'Sati', when an Indian woman's husband dies, she is cremated alive along with her belongings. Although nowadays she is allows to retain her life, she is left with no opportunities to work and a family for which to care. Widows in India society rarely remarry. As remarriage is a rare practice, for some families, the death of the father might very well be a death sentence for all. They are the people Jesus loved and for whom he commanded us to care. "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this: To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction" (James 1:27).

In most of the families, the aged is not considered as a member. The crumbs that fall from their meals are given as the food for the aged. The poor aged who spent their whole life and income for caring their son’s and daughter's future, are left alone in the family boat at the time of trial. Our organization has understood the problems of the aged, irrespective of their caste, creed and culture, and has come forward to sharetheir burden.

We have planned to lunch a center where widows and elders receive medical care, accommodation, food, clothing and shelter.
